Sermon notes; MEMORY Due Wednesday, October 15, 2025 SECOND ARTICLE
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. What does this mean?
I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord.
He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins,
from death and from the power of the devil, not with gold or silver, but with his holy, precious blood and with his innocent suffering and death.
All this he did that I should be his own, and live under him in his kingdom, and serve him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness, just as he has risen from death and lives and rules eternally. This is most certainly true.
Mark 10:45 The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
John 14:2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. (Extra Credit 3%: “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”)
John 14:19 Because I live, you also will live.
KEY TERMS
Jesus needed to be both true man and true God in one person so that:
1)he could be under God's law with us (true man) & he could keep God's law perfectly for me (true God)
2) he could die for me (true man) & his dying could pay for all sins (true God)
Humiliation = Christ chose not to make full use of his power and glory.
Descent into Hell = Assures me that Jesus has the victory over the devil
Resurrection = Jesus came back to life, to show me that 1) He is God's Son 2) His payment for sin is complete
3) I will live also; I don't have to fear my death.
